Advocacy

championing our members' interests

As an association DMLA can speak for the industry as a whole and advocate on behalf on members with a greater impact than any one member can achieve independently. DMLA actively supports legislation and cases that have an impact on the content licensing industry on both a state and federal level including support for copyright protection and enforcement, as well as state legislation regarding rights of publicity and privacy. We provide industry perspective in active cases that may affect the industry by filing or joining amicus briefs on issues that impact members. In addition, we collaborate with “sister” organizations in the EU and UK in areas of common interest to effect policies that promote a healthy content licensing. DMLA frequently responds to requests for information from the Copyright Office, and is a member of the Copyright Alliance, an organization that advocates for the creative industries in general. DMLA works closely with a coalition of other visual associations, responding to requests for Notice of Inquiries from the Copyright Office and we are currently working with Congress in support of the CASE Act, which would provide a copyright small claims tribunal for a cost effective alternative forum to Federal Court to enforce typical copyright infringement claims that face the industry in this digital environment.
